How Technology is Changing Education

  • Written by Diana Smith

There’s no doubt technology has had a huge impact on the world we live in. People use their smartphones 24/7 and you can even get a smart refrigerator that can do shopping for you. However, technology didn’t only change our everyday lives – it has also become a powerful tool for learning. In fact, technology has opened many doors in education and its impact on it is only going to grow. But how exactly is technology changing education? Read on to find out.

Improved communication

The quality of teacher-student communication can determine how much a student is able to learn. And with the power of the internet, communicating with other people has never been easier. Social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram allow you to contact anyone, no matter what time it is and where they are. Also, there is email which is still being used much more than you might believe and it gives teachers a chance to send learning materials to their students. If you’re a teacher and you’re working with multiple students, you might also want to think about using Dropbox.

More information

This one is quite obvious but it definitely needs to be included on this list. There’s so much stuff on the internet and students who are hungry for information can find anything they want. So, let’s say you’re a biology teacher and your students are learning about the human body. Everyone in your class would be able to use the internet to find pictures, books and explanation videos that would help them understand the way the human body works. The amount of information online also helps teachers come up with homework ideas for their students.

Note passing online

As we’ve already mentioned above, technology allows students to access any information they need. While there are websites, such as Wikipedia, which are meant to be used by everyone, there are also places online whose purpose is to help students acquire more knowledge. This means that if you’re a student, you can now find notes online and use them when preparing for a big exam. For example, if you’re a student living in Australia and you need relevant resources for your studies, browsing SACE notes is something you just can’t go wrong with.

The use of e-books

No matter what subject a student is studying, there’s so much useful material they can use to gather more information. Unfortunately, finding a physical copy of every book a student might need can be extremely difficult. Luckily, the e-book format is constantly gaining more attention and students are able to find the books they need on the web. This format also allows teachers to create their own workbooks and share them with their students. Last but not least, students can use e-books in class instead of hauling bulky books every day.

Interactive learning materials

Using interactive materials is a great way to enhance students’ learning experience. Not only does it make the entire process more fun but it can also make students more productive while in the classroom. And with technology such as PCs, tablets and smartphones, teachers can use all kinds of interactive learning materials including images, videos and games. Also, there are apps that have been specifically designed to be used in the classroom and help students learn more. This also helps preserve the environment as similar activities without using technology would require a large amount of paper.

What’s most important is that educators are trying to make the most of new technology as it is being released. This means students are constantly provided with more learning opportunities and there should be nothing stopping them from acquiring more knowledge.
