Locked Out Of Your Car? Here Is What You Can Do!

  • Written by Imad Rizk

Man opening a car door

Getting locked out of your car isn’t an unusual incident; car lockouts can happen to anyone and at anytime. They can occur because of many reasons. For instance, you can be locked out of your car if you lost your key or forgot it in the car or your car door lock somehow malfunctioned.

Whether you’re getting back home from work or from grocery shopping, such accidents can happen without any warning. The key to getting through this is to remain calm and patient and refrain from taking any action that can damage your vehicle or injure you.

If you are locked out of your car, here are some measures you can take to get out of the mess.

Check All Cars Doors and Windows

When you find yourself in such a situation, maintain your calm and evaluate all your options. You might want to start by checking every door and window of your car, which is probably going to be your first instinct anyway. You can look and check all the locks to see if any door or window was mistakenly left open which can help you get in.

If you have an automatic lock system, you might be out of luck in this respect. Automatic systems lock all the car doors even if you forget to lock them at times. However, sometimes, luckily, your car door might not have fully closed and the lock may be stuck halfway, allowing easy entry into the vehicle. Moreover, if you’ve locked your key inside the vehicle, you may be fortunate enough to find a door or trunk that is still opened or can easily be accessed.

Call a Friend or Family Member

A friend in need is a friend indeed! Sometimes reaching out to a family member or friend for help is the best way to weasel your way out of a messy situation like this one. Maybe a friend or family member has a spare key to your car or they might have access to your house where there’s a spare key.

However, you can try calling them to see if they can drive down to you and hand over a spare key or maybe even take you to a professional locksmith. Either way, be as patient as you can and wait for help to arrive!

Call a Tow Truck Service

If you are locked out of your car because you lost your car keys in Sydney, Then call a tow truck service. This is probably the most convenient and fastest way to get your car unlocked in case of an emergency. You can call up the Tow truck company to dispatch a truck which is the closest to your location.

Contact Roadside Assistance

If you make contributions to roadside assistance programs, now is the time to reap the benefits! These professionals will have just the tools and support you require to unlock your car door. While you might have to pay a little extra to access this privilege, rest assured, it will sure be worth it. You can call these professionals and provide them with your current location so they can drive out to you and help out.

If your vehicle is insured, another thing you can do if you have lost car keys in Sydney is contact your car insurance company. Luckily, if car lockouts are covered by your policy, the insurance company will send someone your way!

Call a Professional Car Locksmith

Perhaps, the most effective way to regain access to your car is by calling in a professional locksmith. It doesn’t matter whether its early morning or the middle of the night, you can reach out to a 24/7 car locksmith to help you out!

When you have exhausted all your other options such as checking other car doors and have no spare key, then a 24/7 car locksmith is the best option you have got! You will only have to compensate the professional for their services and won’t need to put in any other effort or stress yourself out by attempting to unlock the car yourself.

Car locksmiths are experts at opening locks. They have years of experience, proper equipment and well, great insights. A car locksmith will arrive at your location, do the required job and get you back in your vehicle in no time.

Install a Spare Key

The ideal way to handle a car lockout situation is to prevent it from occurring in the first place. Always make sure to have a spare key for your car locks. You can try installing them somewhere on your car. Now, you must be wondering how that’s possible. While it might be a difficult task, it definitely is possible!

Find a secure place on the outer side of your car and use a zip tie to fit your spare key. Another great option you have is to install a key holder on your vehicle. Key holders are smart devices that act like mini-safes and are specially designed to hold spare keys. Some key holders are magnetic so you can attach them directly onto the car’s metal; however, it is always good to attach it with something extra like a zip tie or adhesive to keep it from falling off. Regardless of where you choose to store your spare key, make sure you fit it in hard-to-reach places.

Conclusion

Getting locked out of your car due to your negligence can be cumbersome! However, such situations aren’t the end of the world as they can happen to anyone at any time. So don’t stress out too much if you are locked out of your car. Hopefully, the tips mentioned in the article will help you get a good grip on the situation if you ever get locked out.
