Steps Required to Maintain Petrol Station Fuel Systems

  • Written by NewsServices.com

Fuel systems have become part and parcel of our everyday life. These systems’ popularity is due to how much fuel is used by almost every sector ranging from construction to transportation sectors. Fuel systems are used to burn fuel for power generation. The generated power is used to generate electricity (fuel generators), power car engines, or more.

Hence, there is a need for these fuel systems to be at optimal performance, but there are factors that tend to reduce these performance levels of these fuel systems and eventually cause damage. Here, let's take a look at some of the factors that can reduce the efficiency of fuel systems.

Factors that Can Damage Fuel System

Certain factors can hamper the performance of fuel systems, and these factors are:

  1. Water: As fuel systems, they are designed to accept only fuel to function effectively. This means that the presence of any substance other than fuel will affect its performance. Water tends to build up in diesel not stored correctly. This is because diesel is a very volatile liquid that condenses easily.

  2. Dirt: Dirt may enter fuel systems through holes during refueling or from the diesel. When fuel systems have little holes aside from the primary opening, dirt tends to find its way into the system. When refueling, it is vital to know the atmosphere, as refueling systems in open, dirty, and busy spaces increase the chances of contaminating the fuel. This is the most common form of dirt. When fuels are stored for long periods, they develop debris that contaminates it. When used in fuel systems, they also contaminate the fuel systems.

Parts of Fuel Systems

Proper maintenance cannot be ensured from a place of ignorance. Hence, it is essential to know the primary parts of a fuel system and how they function. These parts are:

  1. Fuel filter: This part filters the fuel that comes into the fuel system to eliminate dirt and debris. This is no assurance that the fuel is dirt-free.

  2. Diesel (fuel) tank: This stores the fuel that comes into the fuel system.

  3. Water separator: This extracts water molecules present in the fuel and stores them temporarily.

Maintaining Fuel Systems

There are specific steps to keep your fuel system at optimal performance. Their steps are:

  1. Ensure that it is the fuel you are using in the fuel systems. This is ensured by buying fuels from a reliable and trusted fuel station.

  2. Regularly clean your fuel filters, and if the need to replace them arises, buy a fuel filter that fits properly.

  3. Make draining the water from the water separator a habit. This should be done daily or when the indicator shows that the separator is full.

  4. Store fuel correctly. The best way to store fuel is at room temperature.

  5. Avoid refueling in busy, open, and dirty areas because this reduces the chances of contaminating the fuel.

  6. Check for extra openings in the fuel system and have those holes closed.

Conclusion

The benefits of having a good working and functioning fuel system are often highlighted by the importance of fuel systems. Hence, for a functional and effective fuel system, there is a need for petrol station fuel system maintenance, and this article has highlighted how you can do that.
