Which electric car charger should you install at your home?

  • Written by NewsServices.com

Electric cars have been growing in popularity, but this technology has only become viable for the average consumer. Electric vehicles are great for the environment because they don't use gas, just electricity from your home. But they come with their own sets of challenges.

The challenges of charging electric cars

The challenge with electric cars is that they take longer to recharge than their gas-powered counterparts. So you need a way to get back on the road quickly if you're going somewhere far away or planning an extended trip.

Installing an electric car charger in your home is easier than ever. So which electric car charger should you install at your home? Here are the different levels of charging available for you:

Level 1 charging is slow but perfect for your home.

It takes about 8 hours to charge a car fully, but it's ideal for home use because it's safer and cheaper than other systems. Level 1 chargers are also easy to install and don't require any special wiring or expertise; they're safer than other systems because they don't use high-voltage electricity, and they plug directly into the outlet that already exists in your garage.

Level 2 charging is four times faster.

With a Level 2 charger, you'll be able to charge your car much faster than if you were using a Level 1 charger.

The main difference between the two is that Level 2 chargers are installed in homes and businesses, while Level 1 chargers can only be found at public charging stations. The reason that charging at home is so much faster is because of the high voltage.

A 240V outlet runs at twice the voltage as an ordinary household outlet (110 volts), which means that your car will add miles to its range four times faster than a regular 120V outlet. In addition to being more efficient, level 2 charging also provides a safer way to power up your EV since it uses a grounded 240-volt circuit similar to what’s used for dryer plugs in many homes today.

Direct current fast charging is the fastest way.

Direct current fast charging is the fastest way to get a full charge. It’s available only at public charging stations; not every electric car supports DC fast charging. However, if you have an electric car that does support DC fast charging, this is your best bet for maximizing battery life and getting the most out of your electric vehicle.

Level 2 chargers are more accessible than Level 3 chargers but are still quite expensive to install. They are perfect for those who don’t need their car charged immediately or don’t have access to a public charger nearby.

All of these EV home charging stations will be available in wall-mounted and portable charging stations.

Have an electrician install your home charger.

If you don’t know where to begin with your EV home charger, ask a professional about EV charger installation. An electrician can install and maintain the wiring and electrical systems, which means they know what they're doing. In addition, they are licensed and insured, so you can rest assured you won't have any issues during installation.

Extra features are worth considering.

The most important thing is to look at the features that will help you get the most out of your vehicle daily. For example, if you need a charger that will charge fast, then one with Quick Charge technology would be best. But if you want something more affordable or easy to install, choose something else, and don’t forget to consider the model of your EV since each one has different requirements.

Conclusion

Hopefully, this guide to electric car chargers has helped you choose the right one for your home. However, if you’re still unsure which one is best, experts recommend talking with an electrician who can help you make an informed decision based on your needs and budget.
