More Wins for South Australian Wines

  • Written by Chloe Chun

After featuring heavily at the recent Noma pop-up in Sydney with three South Australian wines on the carefully considered list, South Australian wine has received additional international recognition earning its place as one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World.

Three small Adelaide Hills and Basket Range wine producers featured on the Noma list amongst an array of acclaimed international wines including the 2015 Estate Chardonnay from the Commune of Buttons, the 2015 Domaine Lucci Chardonnay and the 2015 Travis Tausend Robot!.

Adding to the recent accolades, South Australian wine institution Penfolds was awarded the World's Most Admired Wine Brand in 2016 by Drinks International.

The London-based trade magazine polled more than 200 of the world's top masters of wine, sommeliers, wine buyers and industry experts to come up with the top 100 brands. The iconic Penfolds label was up four places compared to last year, beating its predecessor, Spanish brand Torres.

Adelaide has recently been named one of the Great Wine Capitals of the World, joining the likes of San Francisco USA, Cape Town South Africa and Valparaiso Chile. The group is made up of cities who 'share a key economic and cultural asset: their internationally renowned wine regions'.

South Australia is known as Australia's wine capital offering 100 cellar doors all within one hour's drive from the Adelaide CBD including McLaren Vale, Adelaide Hills and the iconic Barossa Valley. Apart from the array of cellar doors, these regions offer so much more from award-winning local restaurants, farm doors, luxury boutique accommodation and stunning countryside wherever you choose to go.
