Is Coffee Good for you

  • Written by Iona Arratia

Even though it’s helped us pull through all nighters, kept us awake and functioning at work, coffee hasn’t had a very good reputation. In most detox plans to ‘get healthy’, coffee is often the first to go. But before you bid farewell to a faithful friend, you might want to know that coffee can actually be good for you.

It can improve athletic performance

Various studies* have shown that pure caffeine can help athletes run faster and perform with greater accuracy. The idea is that caffeine increases stimulation of the central nervous system, making exercise seem like it involves less effort and pain.

It’s a source of antioxidants

Looks like you don’t need to get your antioxidants just from superfoods. Studies have shown coffee can be a source of antioxidants. Antioxidants help slow the damage to our cells caused by a reaction to environmental and other pressures.

It helps you improve your fiber intake

If you’re feeling a little backed up, a few cups of brew can actually help to get your system running again. A cup of brewed coffee has up to 1.8 grams of fiber with a daily recommended intake of 20-38 grams.

It helps with your memory

Feeling forgetful? Studies*** have shown that drinking two eight ounce cups of coffee per day may help to improve long-term memory.

It’s good for the heart

You can have too much of a good thing but when consumed in moderation, coffee can actually improve your heart health. Studies**** have found that caffeine protected against heart damage in prediabetic, older, and obese mice.

With the benefits it offers, there’s no reason to give up your favourite brew. But not all coffee is made equally. Before you take a sip, check the quality of your coffee. The health benefits and level so nutrients in your coffee is dependent on its quality.

With the health industry constantly expanding ‘natural’ alternatives to almost anything including coffee and become available to the consumer market. Beforeyouspeak Coffee is a high performance natural coffee that contains ingredients such as MCT powder, Siberian Ginseng, Green Coffee Bean Extract, Turmeric and Black Pepper to give you a 100% natural energy hit. Beforeyouspeak is a new company which specialises in high performance, superfood infused instant coffee sachets, ideal for those who want to boost their physical performance or those who just want to get more out of their morning coffee. Mid last year they also launched a collagen coffee for skin health and the beauty market. They have several innovative launches coming out this year as well so stay tuned!
