  • Written by Olivia Jones

With so many changes occurring in the food industry, we can’t help but ask ourselves how can this affect our diet and everyday life, right? It’s no wonder that these changes affect our lives in terms of what and how we eat because it’s all about food trends nowadays. Here are some major food trends that will definitely help you understand how and why they impact our eating habits.

Alternative protein source

When someone mentions a perfectly balanced diet, you’ll immediately start thinking about the right proportions of carbohydrate, fats, and proteins in every meal, right? On the personal level, if you were to create such a well-balanced diet, you’d have to think about all the types of food that you need and combine in such a way to get the right proportion of the essential nutrients that your body needs. Depending on what you’re trying to achieve with your diet, you’d have to increase the amounts of proteins, fats, or vitamins that you get from fruits, vegetables, and meat. Luckily for you, food trends can help you with that as there are more alternative sources of protein now than ever before. With increased awareness of where our food comes from and how it’s processed, people are finding new ways to filter some food types and get the most of it.

Technology

Technology has always had a huge impact on our lives. In the food industry, we’ve seen some game-changers with a variety of home appliances that are now available for every modern household. Starting from various models of juicers to high-end appliances that can cook food in a matter of minutes or freeze it, many personal chef service companies have adopted these modern techniques of preparing food as a standard procedure. It allows their employees to provide a high-quality service and perform with an astonishing level of precision and accuracy.

Personalized diet

A personalized diet has been gaining in popularity lately, and many health experts suggest that you should create your own diet in order to make the most of the produce available in your area that you eat on a daily basis. This implies that you should carefully choose your groceries while paying attention to the amount nutrients that you will get from each food type. Since this can be rather time-consuming, companies from all around the world are now offering individuals personalized diet programs that best suit their needs for specific nutrients. Although quite expensive, these specially designed, personalized diet programs will provide your body with all the essential nutrients. These diets are especially popular among professional athletes and those individuals that are in need for the perfect ratio of fats, carbohydrates, and proteins in their diet.

Farming

With the rise of controversy regarding food industry, we’ve witnessed an increase in the number of people who want to grow their own food for personal use, as well as distribution. This way, farmers and their customers know exactly where the food came from and how it was prepared. These farmers are also responsible for labeling their products and listing all the ingredients that their products contain.

Bioengineered food

We’re all aware that this type of food isn’t the healthiest or the most affordable option, but we are still pressured into adding such items to our grocery list. But not all is as a bad as it seems. This particular technique of producing food was intended for those with a low tolerance on specific ingredients or with a huge list of allergens that they should avoid ingesting. However, genetically modified meat still stirs a lot of controversy, and it will take a lot of time until the consumers accept it.

No matter where you are and what your diet consists of, you’ll always be affected by media and food industry. Although you should always strive to keep up with the new food trends and use them as an inspiration to create your own diet plan, make sure you take them with a grain of salt.
