Hunting and Fishing Clothing Selection Guide

  • Written by Chris Northcolt

How long have you been staying at home?
Do you miss the great outdoors? We feel you! We can’t wait for all of this to be over as well. In the meantime, here are a few tips and tricks to pick out the best gear for your hunting and fishing trips. Remember to keep in mind that you can use coupon codes from websites like Raise to get great deals on your hunting gear.

Get a performance shirt

Get yourself a t-shirt that offers protection against UV rays. You can choose a good one by looking at the UPF rating. T-shirts made from technical fabrics also offer anti-microbial protection and are highly breathable, thus reducing your chance of sweating excessively during a rough trip.

Headgear

During a sunny or rainy day, it is nice to have some protection for your scalp. A good hat will provide protection against UV rays and block the sun from impairing your vision without having the brim hinder your hunting abilities. You can get a baseball cap or a trucker hat when the weather is nice and warm.

When it’s raining you should consider getting a rain hat, or, preferably a light raincoat that doesn’t impede your movement. Being able to move rapidly is key to a successful hunt.

Footwear

Next on your list should be insulated boots perfect for fishing and hunting. Your boots should protect you from any extreme temperatures, be it hot or cold. Insulation will keep rain and mud from getting inside and touching your feet. Ideally, you’ll want a pair of boots with synthetic soles, as those are far less prone to having water go through them.

Pants

A hunter and a fisherman should know that pants need to protect the inferior part of their body from the elements without restricting movement or feeling too heavy or tight. Cargo pants or insulated camo pants usually do the trick. Cargo pants can hold a lot of equipment and are great for summer days, while insulated camo pants will keep you warm during snow and rainfall.

Jacket

When dealing with rough weather, a good insulated jacket will help you out immensely. Brands like The North Face, Salomon, and Nordica should have plenty of quality jackets to choose from. Look at the warmth and insulating rating to get an idea of how good it will be able to trap warm temperature inside your body when necessary.

Sunglasses

During summer, it is also a good idea to get a good pair of sunglasses. But don’t get something that simply looks good. Look for a pair that offers UV protection and doesn’t darken things so much that you won’t be able to hunt game in case you need to move through a dense forest. If you can find a pair of sunglasses that balances both of these, you’re good to go.
