Why Choose Pipe Relining?

  • Written by Samantha Ball

Even a small crack in one of your pipes can lead to a major leak, potentially causing hundreds or even thousands of dollars' worth of damage to your property. If you have a damaged pipe, you have two primary options for repairing it: replacing the damaged pipe segment or relining it. Here's what you need to know to decide which is best for you.

Pipe Replacement vs Pipe Relining

Replacing damaged piping is the traditional method, but that doesn't mean that it is the best. This approach involves digging a large trench on your property in order to access the pipe, tearing up your landscaping in the process. Your plumbing technician can then remove the damaged section, replacing it with a new pipe. Once the pipe is in place, they can refill the trench to complete the job.

However, this method is time-consuming and costly. Not only that, but it can also wreak havoc on your landscaping in the area where the trench needs to be. Pipe relining helps you avoid these problems while also strengthening the pipe overall. Instead of repairing the pipe from the outside, relining involves creating a new seal on the pipe from the inside using a resin that hardens into a new pipe-within-a-pipe. This eliminates the need to dig a trench, saving you the hassle of having to restore your landscaping after the fact. It also makes the relining method perfect for hard-to-reach pipes, like those in the walls of your home or under the foundation.

Benefits of Pipe Relining

The most obvious benefit of pipe relining is that it doesn't cause any damage to your property. It is also far less costly than traditional pipe replacement. Because there is no need to dig a trench, there is far less labour involved for your plumbing technician, which reduces your costs dramatically. It also significantly reduces the amount of time needed to get the job done. Whereas pipe replacement can often take a week or more, a pipe relining job can typically be completed in a single day!

Relining is better for your plumbing system as well. The new lining creates a smooth surface, which makes it easier for water to flow through, enhancing the efficiency of your system. It also makes the pipe stronger than it was before, giving it a new lifespan of 50 years or more. The new lining resists damage from tree roots, protecting your plumbing for decades to come. In addition to giving you peace of mind, this can even add value to your property when you decide to sell.

Making Your Decision

Unless your pipe is damaged beyond the point of repair, pipe relining is virtually always a better option than pipe replacement. Whether you are looking to save time, money or hassle, pipe relining can help you achieve your goal. The costs of pipe relining are well worth it for the benefits you'll receive, making this an easy decision for your property.
