How roller shutters can keep your home secure

  • Written by News Feature Team

Roller shutters have come a long way since the days of horrible, flimsy silver aluminium coverings that protected the front of many shops and factories. Residential shutters are in demand more than ever with homeowners making home security their number one priority. If you’re thinking about installing
roller shutters for security here are a few things to consider.

  1.    Colour & Style Choices

As previously mentioned before security blinds have come a long way to what they used to be. There are now a plethora of styles and colours available meaning you will have no trouble finding security screening that will compliment your home while still adding the extra security protection you are missing.

  1.    Maintenance

If you are worried that added window security coverings will be more hassle to maintain then they are worth, don’t be! Minimal maintenance is required to roller shutters, they basically look after themselves!  All they require is a quick wipe down every now and then whenever you feel like they are getting a bit dirty.

  1.    Security

Having shutters installed will add another level of security to your home. Alarm systems and sensor lights are great however these days do not do much to deter would be intruders. By adding roller shutters to all of your windows you are adding another layer of difficulty for thieves to get through. In most cases it will be too much of a hassle and your light fingered visitors will move on. Shutters are hard to get through, they are designed to be opened one way, and one way only. If someone did try to break through it would cause major difficulty as they would be trying to lift the window covering up and out rather than straight up as they are designed to do. Shutters lock into place once you have fully closed them, this will also give you peace of mind, knowing that you can securely lock up your house when you are home and when you’re away. If you have ever been burgled before you will know how vulnerable you can feel knowing someone could easily gain access to your home.

  1.    Limit How Much Passers-by Can See Into Your Rooms

Having the ability to control how much light you let into your rooms is a great advantage. This way you can have full control over how much light and warmth you let through your windows. This also works out to be quite cost effective, your custom blinds are designed to keep heat in, in winter and keep the heat out in summer. The ability to limit how much of your window is open also adds to the security of your house. When you’re on holidays, away for the day or a few hours, you can pull your shutters down completely blocking off any view of your internal rooms to the outside world. This way you won’t have any prying eyes looking into your home while it is unattended.

  1.    Protection from the Elements

Security blinds also offer great protection from the elements such as rain, hail, snow or the harsh summer sun. In a big storm your windows become quite vulnerable to any falling debris, strong winds or hail. Closing your security blinds will offer good, strong protection and keep your windows in tack. Any broken glass windows will become a focal point for intruders as it will offer them easy access to your homes contents without too much stress. You would be surprised to learn home many homes are targeted by thieves after big damaging storms or bush fires.

  1.    Consider What You Need

Not all roller shutters are created equal. If you are looking for security blinds you may not be so concerned about the look of your blinds, whereas if you are looking for a shutter that just blocks out heat and cold you may be more worried about aesthetics. Determining what reason you want the blinds determines the strength of the covering needed. If you’re not exactly sure what you are after call in the experts. They will be able to assess your property and guide you towards the best roller shutter for your needs. That way you can be sure you are getting the perfect produce for you needs.
