Retaining wall builders - worth their weight in gold

When you don’t have the time, skills or enthusiasm to build a basic retaining wall on your property, retaining wall builders are definitely worth their weight in gold. When you need a structural retaining wall that needs to be engineered to hold back a massive amount of weight, these retaining wall specialists are not only essential but invaluable to the success of your project.

Which type of retaining wall do you need?

Retaining walls can be constructed from timber, sandstone, rocks, boulders, concrete, gabions, bricks and dry stone. However the main four types of construction are gravity retaining walls, anchored retaining walls, cantilever retaining walls and sheet pile retaining walls.

Gravity retaining walls: With a slightly backwards lean and a wide base these walls rely on their own weight to hold back the soil. This means that their width should be at least 50-60% of their height in order to support large amounts of soil. Small walls can be made of timber but larger walls will require stone, concrete or brick. They are a good choice if you have limited space or need to retain a lot of mass.

Anchored retaining walls: These are designed to hold back a substantial amount of soil and so are made from concrete with internal cables that are anchored in concrete at the top and bottom of the wall. Due to their internal support, anchored retaining walls can be constructed thinner or taller than gravity walls.

Cantilever retaining walls: With deep footings these retaining walls require careful design and planning and are not often used in residential properties. Instead, they are more often used in commercial landscaping due to their strength and are a popular choice with many experienced retaining wall builders.

Sheet pile retaining walls: These can be built to hold back soil or water, so are generally used at wharfs, quays and piers, or in building dams, defending against floods and protecting river banks from erosion. They are usually only temporary structures made from either timber or sheet metal but can be more permanent when made from concrete.

Professional work at an affordable price

Not all retaining wall builders are equal, so you want a company with a solid reputation for building quality retaining walls that you can trust. With more than 20 years’ in the industry, Vorstman Constructions are well-known for specialising in hardscape landscaping, particularly retaining walls that need to be built in complex areas.

When you engage the team at Vorstman Constructions, they visit your site to decide on the type of retaining wall that’s required for your project. They determine the type of foundations that are needed, materials that need to be used and whether a structural engineer and council permission will be necessary. The higher the wall and the larger the mass of soil that needs to be retained, the more likely a structural engineer as well as permission from the council will be required.

With a reputation for creating innovative designs and building in complex environments, Vorstman Constructions build retaining walls that stand the test of time. As an Australian owned and operated company, they service Brisbane, Ipswich and the Gold Coast. So if you’re looking for reliable retaining wall builders, you can’t go wrong calling Vorstman Constructions on 0447 211 770 and asking them for a free, onsite quote.
