If you’re considering purchasing an electric vehicle or are looking for information, this blog will have all of the information you need. Continue reading to learn more about the different types of EV chargers, charging levels, and which is right for you.

Let’s take a look!

Identifying the Difference Between Charging Levels and Charging Types

There is a rather big difference between charging types and charging levels. It is crucial to know the difference before purchasing an electric vehicle. Here is a brief rundown of the differences:

  • Charging Levels- The charging level of an electric vehicle is the power you can charge your vehicle at.

  • Charging Types- The charger type is the type of connector that plugs into the electric car.

Understanding the Different Levels of EV Charging

It is crucial to understand the different levels of EV charging. There are currently three different levels and the more powerful they are, the higher the level. Let’s take a look:

  • Level 1 Charing- When you plug the cable in that you got when you purchased your electric car, this is known as level 1 charging. This is the slowest way to charge your electric car because it only delivers 10km to 20km per hour.

  • Level 2 Charging- When you use a charging station on a pole, the ground, or a wall, this is known as level 2 charging. Most of the time, you can find these chargers in commercial or residential places as the charging speed and price point is helpful for this type of charging requirement.

  • Level 3 Charging- Level 3 charging is the fastest way possible to charge your electric vehicle. It delivers far more power which makes it ideal when it is used at service stations or other rest stops. It allows some electric cars to be charged in around 10-15 minutes.

Now that we have an understanding of the different charging levels, we can take a look at the different charging types.

The Different Charging Types

Now, let’s gain an understanding of the different charging types:

  • Type 1- The most common plug used by cars manufactured before 2018, as well as Mitsubishi vehicles.

  • Type 2- The standard plug used by all other EV manufacturers in Australia.

  • CHAdeMO- The plug is issued for car brands such as Toyota, Nissan, and Mitsubishi.

  • CCS Combo- This plug allows both the DC and AC chargers to use the same plug.

  • Tesla Supercharger- This plug uses the same design as the type 2 plugs and only charges Tesla vehicles.

The Bottom Line

Now that you have gained the information possible to choose the right charger for your needs, you should get it installed! An electrician can help you install your EV chargers to ensure it is done correctly.
