Spirits You Can Buy at a Local Bottle Shop

  • Written by News Co Media

Spirits fall into the category of alcoholic beverages that are popular among people who love power-packed drinks. Spirits are made by distilling the liquid after fermentation. In other words, the water content is taken out to increase the concentration of alcohol. Therefore, spirits have a higher ABV or Alcohol by Volume, which can be as high as 89-90%.

But there are different types of spirits. In this article, you'll get to learn about the kinds of spirits you can buy at a local bottle shop or from an online outlet like BottlO'Briens.

Gin

One of the most popular distilled alcoholic beverages is Gin, which has an ABV range between 35% and 55%. It is prepared from cereals and later flavoured with either coriander seeds or juniper berries.

The Gin was first originated in Holland as a way to cure kidney complaints. Doctors used alcohol along with juniper berries as a medicine. Since then, it has become popular across Holland, England, and other parts of the world.

If Gin's ABV range is ideal for you and the coriander-ish taste, then you should order brands like Tanqueray Gin and Vicker's Pink Gin. The latter product is a variation of traditional Gin and features a strawberry flavour.

Rum

Rum is another popular type of distilled spirit produced by fermenting sugarcane by-products, more commonly from molasses.

Rum has an ABV percentage of around 50-60, because of which it is powerful. It was first produced in the 17th century in the Caribbean. Sailors later used them as a way to prevent scurvy.

If you're going to taste Rum, you can purchase the Beach House Spiced Rum that has original style with an optimal blend of spice. The ABV is around the 40% mark.

Since Rum is highly concentrated, it's essential not to over-pour and over-drink, which is common due to varying drink definitions worldwide.

Vodka

Vodka is another popular distilled beverage that originated in regions of Russia and Poland. They consist entirely of water, but the other major constituent is ethanol, which can be as high as 40%. So you've got 40% ABV in vodka.

You can try the Naud French Vodka filtered through limestone soil for natural flavours for the purest vodka. It's both strong and smooth at the same time to offer a unique experience.

Another popular and cheaper vodka option is the premium Bio Vodka with the same ABV (40%) but has been distilled five times and filtered ten times.

Whiskey

Finally, you've got whiskey as a strong, distilled spirit that has an AVB of 40-50%. They are made from grains inside of an earthen pot. The grain used can be barley, maize, wheat, rye, or a mixture of these.

The fermentation process, in the case of whiskey, can be controlled. Once fermented in a pot, the beverage is then aged in wooden barrels. The purpose is to smoothen the taste of the raw spirit and enhance flavour. You can opt for something like Jameson's Irish Whiskey, a triple distilled blended whiskey with a sweet and spicy wood taste.

Besides the above spirits, you can also get your hands on artisan spirits at online platforms like BottlO'Briens. Artists prepare these spirits with a unique blend of taste and flavour. You can order these to get a real, local taste of spirits.
