Common Signs of Vitamin Deficiency and How to Counter Them

There are numerous benefits to eating a nutritious and well-balanced diet. For starters, it can help your body fight off numerous diseases and protect you from health complications while also aiding you in maintaining a healthy weight and providing you with plenty of energy. It can also aid you in having better sleep and increase productive brain function. However, one incredibly important element of a well-balanced diet is that it can provide your body with important vitamins that help keep your body and mind strong and healthy.

What are the signs of vitamin deficiency, though? And if you’re showing them, how can you counter them so that your body is getting the correct nutrients?

What are the Signs of Vitamin Deficiency?

The signs and symptoms listed below are ways your body is trying to tell you that it is lacking the correct vitamins and minerals. If you are experiencing any or a few of these signs, then you may need to adjust your diet, but also invest in multivitamins.

Brittle Hair

If you are experiencing brittle hair (and brittle nails), then you may have a biotin deficiency. While a a lack of biotin can be exceptionally rare, when it does occur, the person may find that their hair becomes brittle and splits at the ends. Other signs of a biotin deficiency include tiredness, tingling in feet and hands, and muscle pain.

Bleeding Gums

Bleeding gums can be a sign of a vitamin C deficiency (although do check your tooth brushing technique, too). This can be a common deficiency for many as your body does not make vitamin C on its own – it needs to be made through your diet. Therefore, you need to eat plenty of fruit and vegetables so that you can obtain the correct amount. Here are the best foods for vitamin C.

Other notable signs of a vitamin deficiency include:

  • Poor night vision

  • Dandruff

  • Scaly patches

  • Hair loss

How to Counter Vitamin Deficiency

Of course, the best way to counter a vitamin deficiency is to ensure that you are eating a well-balanced and nutritious diet. However, for some of us, this isn’t enough and we may need a boost. If this is the case, then why not try taking multivitamins and supplements to help bridge the gap. You can find a variety of wonderful supplements at various pharmacies, much like Pharmacy Online. You can shop online for multivitamins, supplements for hair and nails, as well as fish oils and Omega tablets.

The Bottom Line

The most effective means of countering vitamin deficiency is to ensure that you are eating a diet that allows you to sufficiently intake enough vitamins and minerals. However, if you find yourself experiencing several symptoms of vitamin deficiency while eating a vitamin and mineral-rich diet, then you may need to invest in some supplements. If this doesn’t work, consult your doctor for further blood tests, in case there is an underlying medical cause for your symptoms.
