Different Types of Dental Implants

Are you missing one of your teeth or have lost them completely? No worries! Dental implants are the complete solution to this problem. Dental implants are replacing your lost teeth- the type of implant solely depends on the condition of your gums and bone density.

In this blog post, we will discuss the different types of dental implants and help you decide which one is right for you.

Endosseous Dental Implants

The very first type is the Endosseous dental implants. They are made of titanium and screw into the jawbone. The bone grows around them, anchoring them in place. Then comes the dental prosthetic- it is used to replace the missing teeth.

Unlike other dental implants, endosseous dental implants do not require a surgical procedure to place them in the mouth. Instead, they are inserted using a unique tool that drills the jawbone.

Endosseous dental implants are made of titanium, which is biocompatible. The biocompatibility serves a major benefit as it will not harm the gums, skin and surrounding muscles. They can be used to secure bridges, dentures, or other dental prostheses in place.

Benefits:

Endosseous dental implants offer many benefits over other types of dental implants, including:

They are less invasive

The placement process is much simpler than for other types of dental implants

They are firm and durable

They can last for many years

Subperiosteal Dental Implant

A subperiosteal dental implant is a type of implant that is placed under the periosteum or outer membrane of the jawbone. Sometimes, having insufficient bone density leads to several problems and the traditional implants cannot be done. Here a subperiosteal dental implant fits in! This dental implant can work for both the upper and lower jawbones.

The implant is placed in a small incision in the gum tissue, and the metal post is inserted into the jawbone. The subperiosteal implant can support a single tooth or multiple teeth.

Benefits

The subperiosteal implant is a less invasive alternative to the traditional dental implant, and it can be used in cases where other implants are not an option.

Transdermal Dental Implant

Finally, there is the transdermal dental implant. Lost all teeth? No worries! This type of implant will cover all the teeth for the patients who’ve lost all dentures. Transdermal dental implants are silicone and can be either temporary or permanent.

A transdermal dental implant is a type of dental implant that is placed directly into the jawbone. This type of implant is used to anchor dentures or other prosthetic devices in place.

Benefits:

Transdermal implants are made from titanium, which is biocompatible and will not rust over time. They are also less likely to cause infection or other complications than traditional dental implants.
