The 730-horsepower top version of the German sports car driven by Mercedes-AMG factory driver Maro Engel managed to fly the legendary Nordschleife in 6:48.047 seconds.
The sports car is a standalone class of vehicles, it is a luxury of all types of cars, speedy, stylish, and simply perfect. Mercedes has always been at the top of the sports car manufacturer, competing with other iconic brands.
The Mercedes-AMG GT debuted in 2014 as a competitor to the Porsche 911, but the commercial success of this model is far from that of the Porsche.
The Porsche 911 also holds the Nürburgring record in the road modified car class: it was set in 2018 on a coupe prepared by the half-owned Porsche racing team Manthey-Racing. The team is a racing team, but the car is a road car; it ran the Nordschleife in 6min 44.749s. But the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series set a record as a production car.
In terms of design, the new Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series borrowed a lot of interesting features from the racing GT3 and GT4 models. This two-door car is notable for its aggressive front part with a massive grille featuring an enlarged Mercedes logo, carbon fiber flaps, and an adjustable splitter with two modes: universal Street and Track Race.
The car also got a carbon fiber hood with large ventilation slots on the sides and an air intake in the center. Besides, the modification boasts a carbon fiber tail with a neat spoiler and two-part antifender, and the latter can be adjusted both manually and automatically. Additionally, the supercar stern has a carbon-fiber bumper with a massive diffuser and twin-barrelled exhaust system. Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series is placed on 10-spoke 19- and 20-inch wheels in matte black color with special tires Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R size 285/35 and 335/30 in front and rear. It is reported that at 250 km/h the coupe body generates more than 400 kg of downforce, while the widespread use of carbon fiber allowed lightening the weight of the car.
The Black Series version debuted this summer and became the pinnacle of the evolution of the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe. The car received a modified 4.0-liter M178 twin-turbo eight with a so-called flat crankshaft and more efficient turbochargers. Maximum power - 730 hp at 6700-6900 rpm, the maximum torque - 800 Nm at 2000-6000 rpm. The Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series can reach 60 mph in 3.2 seconds and has a top speed of 325 km/h.
There is no doubt that Porsche will try to break both records, but it is unlikely to happen before next spring. Besides, the Porsche 911 of the current generation has no extreme versions, which could give battle to the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series — their premiere is yet to come.
