  • Haughton River

The Haughton River provided you with more than a beautiful view, it has one of the biggest wetland habitats in Australia. This fishing spot is 50 minutes from Townsville, so it is easy to get to and has a wide variety of fishing available for every type of fisherman.

When is the best time to catch some fish? At low tide and you better be ready for the change in tide as it really does excite the fish. 

  • Crocodile Creek

Catch the right tides at Crocodile Creek and you will catch the best fish! This one is among Townsville locals favourite. This fishing location has something great to it. Not only will you find some deep water but also some of the best fish. Keep in mind that your safety is a priority, and always remember to fish with a clearer view of the water in front of you. They don’t call it Crocodile creek for nothing!

  • Ross River

Looking for Barramundi? Ross River is the right place, and it is located conveniently in the heart of Townsville. This river is accessible to both fishermen that prefer land and riverboat fishing, making it a must-see fishing location. Remember that the warmer months are the best time to fish for Barrunmandi, so start planning your fishing trip now!

  • Black River

Black River is just north of Townsville. Making it easy to get to and an ideal location to fish at. Here you can catch some of Townsville’s biggest Barrunmandi. You would normally find them in the deep holes that make up this reiver. If you are looking for other fish, look no further. As Black River also has Crabs, Golden Snapper, Grunter and Salmon.

  • Alligator Creek 

If you travel just south of Townsville, you will find Alligator Creek. Here you will find plenty of fish to choose from, including, Barramundi, Mangrove Jack,  Grunter, Flathead and Bream. For the best fishing experience, go during the warmer months as the higher temperatures bring in more fish. 

  • Cattle Creek

At Cattle creek you get more than just fishing. This creek is where you will find one of the largest estuary systems between Townsville and Ingham. This creek allows you with an experience of navigating through this narrow estuary system. There is an influx of fish because the safety of the system leads to the ideal place for fish to breed. So if you dare to make the trip up, Cattle Creek is a must-see.
