Should You Repair Or Replace Your Air Conditioning Unit?

  • Written by News Company

Whenever the summer arrives to the hilt and you feel that your air conditioning isn’t up to the mark, there is always one question that pops up into your mind. What would that question be? Obviously, should I get my AC repaired or just buy a new one? This question leaves everyone super confused and baffled, because summers are meant to spend with AC and a slight glitch will leave you to fend for yourself in the hot weather. There are some factors that help you decide, if your AC is worth saving or not. You need to gauge if you can maintain and fix your old AC, or it is just beyond repair.

The easiest and the most obvious will be to start off with the birth date of your air conditioning unit. What it means is that how long have you been using the same unit? You can also take quotes from various repair companies to check how much it will take to get the AC repaired. If the number is a good amount, you know that it is better to buy a new one. Similarly, you should check if your electricity bill is increasing day by day or not. If it is, you know that your AC is taking too much energy without giving the same in return. So, here were some of the obvious reasons to start with, but some other prominent ways to gauge the health of your AC are mentioned below.

Is The Unit Leaking?

You won’t be able to find it straight away, but a leaking appliance means the death of your Air Conditioner. It means that there is something serious wrong with your unit, and it might take away all of your money to find it out and do the repairs. The easier way to find it out is to check if you need constant top ups with the refrigerant. If you have been doing it routinely, this means there is a constant leak. Buying more refrigerant again and again, and fixing the leak piles up to a lot of money. It can all add up to a cost that would be equal to buying a new air conditioning unit. You can already guess what would be the wise decision here? You can opt for companies providing services in air conditioning Brisbane Northside to further find out if you should repair or buy a new unit.

You’re Moving House:

If you are going to live or work somewhere else, or simply selling off your home to shift somewhere else, you might consider changing the AC. Is the AC unit being sold along with your property? Is the sale included in the property transfer papers? In this case, you need to check if you should get the repairs done before going ahead with the sale. Similarly, if the AC unit is not included in the sale, then the decision is entirely yours if you want to move it with you or not. If it is comparatively new and working just fine, you can take it with you to your new home. The best would be to consult any air conditioning technician in Brisbane Northside before taking a final decision.

You’re Considering Replacement:

If you have reached the point where you think that the repair isn’t an option for you because it is costing you too much, do consider replacement. You can always opt for a used unit that is proven to be energy efficient and works fine. It will cost you less than a new air conditioner and repairing the old one that you are already struggling with. Make sure you check out the history and ask why it’s being sold before you make the purchase.

Lastly, remember that if you have had the same AC for so many years and you just feel like changing it, do not change it, till you actually find out something wrong with it. If it hasn’t given you any problems, then there is no need to replace it. Do maintain it and keep it running till the costs to maintain and manage it becomes too much.
